Tried to sign up to get some electricity at my house, but there's all this bullshit where I have to pick a company from a list of providers first.

Electricity is never going to take off with this poor user experience.

I was trying to buy some crisps but man, look at this. So many flavours and brands. How am I supposed to know which one to pick? I don't understand. I don't want to pick a brand and flavour, I just want to eat some crisps

Crisps will never catch on with this kind of user experience.

I was thinking of leaving my own computer and letting some big organisation run my chatroom for me, but look at this! There's so many. Facebook, and Hive and Twitter and Intsagram and Post and Youtube and Onlyfans and Linkedin and Twitch and Telegram and Tumbler and Blogger and Wordpress.

And they're all siloed apart from each other and don't even interoperate. How are you supposed to pick?

I don't want to pick a provider for my social network, I just want to shitpost and look at pictures of cats.

Big social networks will never catch on with this kind of user experience. I'm going to continue just using my own computer to connect to a free network.

I'm confused, I'm trying to sign up to Bluesky but the very first question is about what Hosting Provider to use and it doesn't even give me a list to choose from I'm just supposed to know the name of it already?

Man I don't want to choose a Hosting Provider I just want to get those juicy starter-packs.

I hope there's not lots of those to choose from too!

Let it default to Bluesky Social. You’ll end up with an account address that ends in bsky.social. Theoretically similar to Mastodon anyone can set up a sever, but I don’t know if anyone else has.
